An Interesting Turn of Events

Need to know what happened in the vault? Read this.

I stepped out of the vault into the safety of a room that held emotions. Marath stood looking concerned. “Is everything all right?” I ignored him.
“Jacen have you ever heard of anything like that before?”
“No.” he replied shaking his head.
“What? What is it?” Marath had a panicky edge to his voice.
“Jaina, is there no technology or species that could have done that? Have you never even heard the notion of it?” Jacen asked me.
I thought for a second. “No never. Well I don’t know about species. That’s supposed to be your subject. But never has the notion ever been conceived about a machine that could cause that.”
“Excuse me?” Marath interrupted.
“I’m not entirely sure about species.” Said Jacen. “I’ve never heard tell of it before. But there are lots of things that I don’t know.”
“WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT???” Marath yelled.
I spun on my heel.
“Mr. Marath, I would advise you not to shout at members of the Jedi Order. It’s not good manners. My brother and I have just discovered a very interesting turn of events. We will need time to look into it.”
“Oh…” Marath began to hum. I assume to calm himself down.
I walked over to the vault door and looked at the keypad. If it had been hacked into there would have been a mark on it. I don’t know where and I don’t know how small, it can vary but there was nothing. Not even a scratch.
“Jaina,” Jacen was talking to me. “Come on, we need to report to Uncle Luke.”
I took one last look at the keypad then turned around. “Goodbye Mr. Marath. I’m sure we will meet again.”
And with that Jacen and I left the Bank and headed home.

When we had reached home I let Jacen report to Uncle Luke. I had this nagging feeling that I should know where I had felt the feeling of that familiar presence before. Plus I was tired and wanted to meditate.
There was no sign of Mum at home and I went into my room, kicked off my boots and sat on the floor with my legs crossed. I sank into that state where images and thoughts just drift through your mind, eventually I got to the state where there is nothing, just emptiness. It’s so nice just to sit like that but eventually you fall asleep.

I was just about to; you know that state of mind when you are half dreaming but still awake? Well I was there when a face flashed in front of my eyes. I was fully aware of everything in an instant. I couldn’t believe that it had taken so long for me to realise it. I pulled on my boots and ran out of the apartment. I yelled to Jacen on my way out, “I think I know what happened at the bank! I know where I’ve felt that familiar presence!”
“Who is it?” He shouted back.
I answered just as I passed through the door. “Jagged Fel!”

Something's not right here.

Want to know why I don't trust Marath? Then read this.

Jacen and I walked slowly around the foyer, talking through our thoughts.
“Do you really think that Marath did this?” Jacen asked me
“It’s possible,” I replied bending down to check in a potted plant for recent finger marks. There was nothing. “I don’t trust the guy but I don’t think he did it. Something doesn’t feel quite right in here. Can you not sense it?”
“Yea, it’s almost like… I dunno. It’s hard to put a finger on it.”
I straightened up from checking for footprints behind the counters.
“Emotion.” I said. “There is hardly any emotion in the air. And a certain presence, like one I’ve felt before. It’s not exactly the same but it’s familiar. I can’t think where I’ve felt it before.”
“We are in a bank Jaina,” replied Jacen. “They are pretty emotionless places.”
“Mm.” I mumbled out loud. I was pretty sure it was something more than that.

10 minutes later I approached Marath. “I was wondering if I could have a look at the vault Mr. Marath. My brother is going to continue looking out here but it doesn’t look like there is anything to be found.”
“Oh, dear. Oh dear.” Jabbered Marath, his hands couldn’t stay still. “It’s not looking very good for me is it?”
I shook my head. “No Mr. Marath it isn’t.”
He continued to wring his hands. “The vault?” I prompted him.
“What? Oh yes! The vault is this way.”
He led me through a series of doors with locks and the strange feeling increased. “None of these doors had their codes hacked into?” I was amazed. There was so many of them.
“That’s right. It’s so strange. And I am the only person who knows these codes.”

When we got the vault I had a quick scout outside it. There was nothing, no clues and nothing else. It was just one massive door with a keypad for entering the codes.
“Could you open it for me please?” I asked, remembering to ask nicely.
Mr. Marath typed in 4 different codes and the door swung open gently. I shivered but put it down to the blast of cold air that hit me. I took two steps in and it felt like someone had hit me, I gasped for air and slowly I forced myself to breath.
I called out through my thoughts to Jacen knowing my normal voice would never reach him. He came running. “What is it Ja…” he stopped as he felt it to, though it didn’t affect him as much.
“But what could have done it?” he questioned.
“I have no idea.” I replied as I stood up straight and looked around. The vault was completely void of emotion.

Mr. Marath

Want to know why we are at the bank? Then read this.

The huge glass doors swung open to let us in as we entered the Bank. The manager greeted us. He was a Bith and quite small. He appeared nervous constantly wringing his hands together, then putting them in his pockets and pulling them out again.
"Hello," he said extending his hand to Jacen. "I assume you are the Jedi that Master Skywalker has sent."
Jacen shook his hand. "Yes, my sister and I are handling this as a mission, Mr...?"
"Mr. Marath, my name is Marath." he said barely glancing at me. I took an instant dislike to him.
"Space slug." I thought. Jacen shot me a look that plainly said I-heard-that-don't be rude! Marath was continuing, "... for being rude but I thought that Princess Leia was to take up my cause?"
"We are very sorry, but Master Leia was other wise engaged so she was unable to come." I said with just a hint of sarcasm. "But I bet you would have liked to have her here, worm." Jacen shot me another look and said quickly "Could you please tell us why you called the Jedi in on this instance please, Mr. Marath? Is this not more of a case for the CIA*?"
ell…,” he replied, wringing his hands more than before, “it would be but...” Marath glanced around and noticing a rather interested policeman changed his sentence to “Would you like to come into my office young Jedi? Bring your sister as well.”
I looked at him, gob smacked. “Why the little…” “Mr. Marath, I’m afraid you didn’t understand my brother. We are taking this as a joint mission. We are both Jedi.”
If Marath was surprised he didn’t show it. I could sense nothing either. I was really beginning to dislike this guy. “How nice for you.” was all he said.
I followed Jacen into the back of the bank and then up the lift to Marath’s office.

His office was plush. He had a rather large leather armchair with his desk facing the window. It was a stunning view. He had pictures of himself with famous people all over the back wall. There was one of him with the Senator of Coursant and the Chancellor of the New Republic. Jacen pointed to one and asked, “Is that Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes?”
Mr. Marath smiled, “Ah yes.” he sighed. “That was taken a quite a few years ago now, it must be nearly 15. Or perhaps it is more like 20. Time goes so fast you know, I can hardly keep track of it. It was at their very last gig you know.”
“I believe that they played their last gig 24 years ago Mr. Marath.” I said. “Quite a few members are no longer living.”
Mr. Marath shook his head. “Alas, I know. The fate of us all.”
Jacen decided it was time to bring this converstion back to the matter at hand. “Mr. Marath would you like to tell us why you called the Jedi in?”
“Oh, yes! Silly me. I had almost forgotten what you were here for. Won’t you please take a seat… I’m sorry I don’t believe I caught your names.”
“We didn’t give them.” I answered coolily.
Jacen seemed to think it was aproapite to make up for my lack of curtosy. “I am Jacen and this is Jaina.” He answered as he took a seat.
“I prefare to stand, thanks.” I stated. I wanted to be ready for anything. More and more I was getting the feeling that there was something funny going on here.
“Each to his own,” said Mr. Marath, not in the least bit offended. “Now, what would you like to know, young Jedi?”
“Start at the start Mr. Marath, I think would be best.”
“And don’t leave anything out. Even feelings can help us.” Jacen told him.

“Well,” he began “It was like any other night. The day had gone well, not too many angry customers to deal with. I locked up as normal, my droid told me that everything was locked securly. I live above the bank so I went up and went through my normal routine. I went to bed and everything seemed fine. I then woke up in the middle of the night. It must have been around 2 or 2.30am. I was unsure as to what had woken me first of all, I normaly am very had to wake. I procceded to visit my bathroom to get a drink. It was then that I became aware as to what had woken me. There was a very high pitched buzing, too high pitched for most species, coming through the floor. My quarters are a few below this one. I didn’t think much of it as strange noises are often heard in this Planet. I simply turned on Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes to drown it out and went back to sleep.
When I went down in the morning the vault door was wide open. The front door was unlocked and 10 million credits were gone. I called in the police and the checked around. The strange thing was that there was no evidence of the vault being broken into and the security code hadn’t been hacked into. It was clean and the same with the front door. The poilce started questioning me and that’s when I called you in. You see, the thing is, I’m convinced that the strange buzzing I heard last night has something to do with it. That’s why you two are here!”

“How do we know he didn’t do it?” I questioned Jacen through my thoughts.
“Because he has no motive. Besides, he doesn’t seem that concerned about himself in all of this. He just wants to find his banks money.” Jacen answered.
I took a few steps towards the door. “We’ll have a look around then, Mr. Marath.”

Just Great!

"And don't be too late either!" yelled Mum as we wandered out of the apartment.
"Bye Mum." I shouted as a reply. Jacen and I were going downtown to have a bit of fun with no parents around. Not down-downtown, just downtown.

"Where do you want to go first?" asked Jacen.
"Not sure is there anywhere you need to go?" I asked him.
"Well.... Umm... yea, there is. I need to go and get some treats for Scooter."
"Ok, well I need to get some parts for the old hover bike that is lying in the shed in New Naboo and I've just been notified that the Rouge Squadron in stationed here so I want to go and say Hi to Wedge. He's just been promoted so I suppose I need to congratulate him."
So we headed off to the Pet Store.

15 minutes later we were still there. I was bored silly. "Jacen come on, you've been in here so long. What is the hold up?"
He looked at me, his eyes were full of mock pity. "Aww poor Jaina can't stand being in a shop that she doesn't like for longer than 5 minutes."
I shoved him. "Shut up! But seriously, all you are getting is mouse treats. How hard is it?"
apparently very hard if you are Jacen. 10 minutes later he was still wondering if it would be better to get treats that helped Scooter's teeth or helped his digestive system.
He ended up getting them both.

We started the 10 minute walk to "Bill's Bits and Bobs." I know it's a crap name but you can find the most amazing cheap stuff in there.
Just as we were about to go in my communicator went. I took it out of my pocket and rolled my eyes, "It's Mum." Honestly we've only been out of the house 45 minutes and she's already checking on us. Sometimes it's weeks during the term! As soon as summer comes she suddenly cares.
I set it on my hand and pushed the accept button. Mum's face appeared as a projection.

"Where are you?" she asked.
"Just outside the spare part shop Mum." I sighed.
"Oh good! Luke just got in contact with me asking me to go down to the Coursant branch of the Galactic Bank. There's been a break in and a substantial amount of money stolen. I told him you two could handle it as a mission. Report back to Master Skywalker when you are done." And she cut communation.
I looked at Jacen, Jacen looked at me.
"Great," I said, "Just great." and we set off to pay the bank a visit.

You can't stop me!

Your Theme Song is Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf

"I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under"

A total independent spirit, you can't be held down or fenced in.
You crave the feeling of wind on your face... and totally freedom.
OK, so I stole this off Wedge's Blog, but this is the result I got and I was so pleased with it. I'm really feeling good right now and this song captures my mood perfectly.
It's the summer, I'm on Coursant with no limits and the Trixter is ready and waiting to be used. I just can't wait to get out there and have a good time!

Postcard

To all my Blogging Friends,
I am having a great time here on Kashyyyk. The surf is brilliant and everyone is having an awesome time!
The sun has been brilliant. Jacen got a bit burnt but he's fine now. Mum has finally stopped talking about the Republic and Dad is enjoying his frequent trips down memory lane.
I suppose by the time you get this I will be almost home as the G.P.S (Galactic Postal Service) is so slow.
See you all soon,
Jaina.
